Traditional Consultative Practice

Divination

A traditional consultative practice used here as a structure for thinking — a way of setting a question down and looking at it from more than one side.

Reflective · Not prediction · Not fortune-telling

What divination is, and is not

Across African traditions, divination has long served a practical social function: it gives a question a formal shape so that it can be examined, discussed and returned to. The practice slows a decision down and takes it out of the head of the person carrying it.

It is not treated here as prediction. You will not be told what will happen on a given date, and no claim is made that the future is being read. Anyone offering certainty about events is offering something no practice can support.

What the session provides is structure. A question is defined precisely — which is often the hardest part — and the traditional perspectives that bear on it are discussed openly, so you can weigh them yourself.

Who this may be appropriate for

Divination suits people who want to think more carefully, not people who want to be told what to do.

  • A decision you keep circling

You have made the pros-and-cons list several times and it changes nothing.

  • A question you cannot frame

You know something needs deciding but cannot say clearly what the question is.

  • A crossroads with no bad option

Both paths are reasonable, which is precisely what makes it difficult.

  • Interest in the practice itself

You would like to understand what divination actually is within African tradition.

What a consultation involves

Much of the work happens before anything is interpreted.

  1. Defining the question

Vague questions produce vague reflection. Time is spent getting to the real one, which is frequently not the first one offered.

  2. Context

What surrounds the decision — people, obligations, timing, and what you have already tried.

  3. The traditional practice

The consultative practice is carried out and explained as it goes, rather than performed at you.

  4. Discussion

What the perspectives suggest, where they are ambiguous, and what they do not address.

What you can expect

Ambiguity acknowledged

Where a reading is genuinely open to more than one interpretation, you are told so rather than given false precision.

No dates or predictions

No claims are made about specific future events, numbers, or outcomes.

Your judgement kept intact

The purpose is to inform your decision, never to replace it.

Transparency about the practice

You can ask what is being done and why at any point, and get a straight answer.

What is not promised

Divination is not presented as prediction, certainty or established fact. Nothing discussed should be treated as a forecast of events, and no outcome is guaranteed.

It is not a substitute for professional advice. Decisions with medical, legal, financial or immigration consequences should be taken with a qualified professional; a consultation may help you think, but it does not replace that counsel.

Further detail is set out in our disclaimer.

Privacy and discretion

The decisions people bring here often involve employers, family members or partners who do not know the question is being weighed. The session is private and stays that way.

Privacy and discretion are important to the consultation experience: what you share is treated with care and is never published or quoted in marketing. If you would prefer to be contacted only at certain hours, or only by message rather than by call, say so at the outset and that is how it will be handled. Our privacy policy sets out how information is handled in practice.

How information is handled is described in the privacy policy.

How it works

  1. 1 · Reach out

Say what area the decision concerns. The precise question can wait.

  2. 2 · Arrange a time

A quiet, private time by WhatsApp or phone.

  3. 3 · The session

The question is defined, the practice is carried out, and the perspectives are discussed openly.

  4. 4 · Afterwards

You take the reflection away and decide in your own time.
